Overview

Founded in 2021 in San Diego, Catrak Technologies, Inc delivers innovative automotive security, GPS tracking, telematics, and fleet safety solutions designed to help organizations improve visibility, efficiency, and operational control. Established by transportation and technology professionals with deep expertise in fleet operations, finance, and connected vehicle technologies, the company continues to expand its portfolio of intelligent mobility solutions.

Following the successful launch of the no-cost Drivestream™ platform in July, Catrak has introduced Drivestream Plus™, an enhanced solution that combines vehicle tracking, workforce visibility, connected vehicle diagnostics, and proactive maintenance intelligence in a single platform. While Drivestream™ provides asset management and field service organizations with real-time visibility without the need for dedicated vehicle hardware, Drivestream Plus™ extends those capabilities through a no cost CAN transmitter that delivers advanced vehicle health, performance, and maintenance insights.

The Connectivity Challenge

Traditional fleet management systems often rely on dedicated GPS hardware, professional installation, and separate service plans for every vehicle. These requirements can create significant barriers to adoption, particularly for small and mid-sized fleets, while also taking revenue-generating assets out of service during installation and maintenance. Catrak addressed this challenge with the launch of its no-cost Drivestream™ platform, providing fleet visibility and workforce management without the need for dedicated vehicle
hardware.

As Catrak expanded its connected vehicle portfolio with the introduction of Drivestream
Plus™, the company faced a new challenge: delivering advanced vehicle diagnostics and maintenance insights through connected hardware while maintaining the flexibility, simplicity, and scalability that customers expect. Catrak required a connectivity solution capable of supporting custom device configurations, mixed deployment models, and lifecycle-based connectivity management. Assets may remain dormant before deployment, transition between active and inactive service, or move across multiple operational environments throughout their lifespan. Drivestream Plus™ addresses these requirements by enabling scalable, intelligent connectivity management that adapts to the operational realities of modern fleets. The platform was designed to support future growth across multiple networks and geographic regions without the complexity of maintaining separate SIM inventories or connectivity programs for each market, providing customers with a streamlined path to deployment and expansion while maintaining a much lower cost of entry.

Why KORE

As Catrak prepared to expand the capabilities of Drivestream Plus™, the company evaluated potential connectivity partners based on long-term business stability, responsive technical support, configuration flexibility, and overall cost effectiveness. Just as importantly, Catrak required a partner that could accommodate unique activation patterns, custom device configurations, and the operational realities of connected fleet assets. KORE demonstrated a willingness to align with Catrak’s business model and worked collaboratively to support both the technical and economic requirements of the Drivestream Plus™ platform. Through this collaboration, KORE provided a customized Super SIM™ solution for the cellular-enabled devices that power Drivestream Plus™.

The solution combines multi-network connectivity with centralized controls for provisioning, activation, suspension, and usage management, giving Catrak the flexibility to manage connected assets throughout their entire lifecycle.

Key Benefits Include:

  • Multi-network access: A single connectivity platform supports devices across participating cellular networks, reducing reliance on a single carrier and providing greater deployment flexibility.
  • Lifecycle-based activation: Devices can remain dormant prior to deployment and be activated, suspended, or reactivated as customer requirements change, helping optimize operational efficiency and connectivity costs.
  • Custom commercial model: KORE worked closely with Catrak to develop a connectivity framework tailored to the company’s device requirements and business model, providing a level of flexibility not typically available through traditional carrier programs.

This approach enables Catrak to scale Drivestream Plus™ deployments across customers, vehicle types, and geographic regions while maintaining a streamlined connectivity strategy and consistent user experience.

The Results

Following the successful launch of Drivestream™ Basic in July 2026, Catrak Technologies expanded its mobile-first telematics portfolio with the introduction of Drivestream Plus™, adding integrated workforce and vehicle intelligence capabilities. Together, these solutions provide fleet operators with a scalable adoption path, beginning with smartphone-based workforce visibility and progressing to advanced connected vehicle diagnostics, maintenance monitoring, and fleet health management.

Cost Savings
Drivestream delivers substantial cost advantages compared to traditional hardware-centric
telematics platforms. By leveraging technology already carried by drivers, fleets can deploy advanced tracking, reporting, and workforce management capabilities without the financial burden of vehicle-installed GPS hardware, reducing both upfront investment and ongoing lifecycle costs.

Market Impact
Catrak successfully maintained its targeted pricing strategy and gross margin objectives throughout the product launch
cycle. The company’s mobile-first approach positions Drivestream and Drivestream Plus to challenge legacy telematics providers by offering enterprise-grade functionality at a significantly lower total cost of ownership

“Prior to starting Catrak Technologies, I sold enterprise solutions for leading transportation technology companies. I was familiar with KORE and appreciated their pricing, creativity, and consistent support. Partnering with KORE was an easy choicef or Catrak.”

Mark Richardi, Founder, Catrak Technologies Inc.

Adoption and Accuracy
Initial market adoption exceeded expectations. Targeted deployment regions achieved a 78% adoption rate utilizing Drivestream’s smartphone-only solution. User engagement also significantly surpassed projections by nearly 500%, with more than 18,000 downloads recorded within 90 days, exceeding the company’s stretch objective of 3,000 by a wide margin. These results validated market demand for a mobile-first telematics platform and demonstrated that smartphone-based telematics can deliver the visibility, and accuracy fleets require without the cost.

Peace of Mind

KORE’s established reputation for reliable connectivity and proactive customer support provided Catrak with confidence throughout development and deployment. With a dependable connectivity foundation in place, the Catrak team was able to focus its efforts on innovation, product enhancement, and customer experience while scaling the Drivestream ecosystem.
